JENNY OAKES SOBERA, MD, FAAD

Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Jenny Sobera is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, the Alabama Dermatology Society and the Women’s Dermatologic Society. A Mountain Brook native, Dr. Sobera received her Bachelor of Science degree at Auburn University and completed her medical training and residency at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, graduating magna cum laude from both institutions.

Dr. Sobera diagnoses and treats a variety of skin conditions in adult and pediatric patients, providing thorough care for them through a calm and approachable demeanor. She is a board-certified dermatologist focusing on skin health. As an expert in living skin cells, Dr. Sobera addresses and treats conditions – whether medically necessary or cosmetic in nature – with surgical, laser and minimally invasive procedures that improve the health and appearance of skin. These procedures include the treatment of unwanted veins, benign growths, skin cancers, aging skin, excess hair, and unwanted fat. Through this process, Dr. Sobera uses a wide range of techniques, both corrective and preventative, in order to maximize the health, function, and appearance of your skin.

KATHERINE FENING, MD, FAAD

Board Certified Dermatologist

Dr. Katherine Fening specializes in medical dermatology with a focus in dermatopathology to study cutaneous diseases at the microscopic level. She is a summa cum laude 2006 graduate of Saint Louis University and a magna cum laude 2010 graduate of the Ohio State University School of Medicine. Dr. Fening completed her residency and dermatopathology fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and was named Chief Resident in Dermatology. She is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatopathology. Dr. Fening lives in Birmingham with her husband, Brandon, and their two children.

RACHEL PFLEDERER, MD, FAAD, FACMS

Board Certified Dermatologist and Fellowship Trained Mohs Surgeon

Dr. Rachel Pflederer is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon. Dr. Pflederer earned her medical degree from the University of Indiana School of Medicine and completed her residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where she was named Chief Resident. In addition to advanced training in medical and cosmetic dermatology, Dr. Pflederer is highly trained in the Mohs micrographic surgery technique and has performed over 2,000 Mohs surgeries since her fellowship training. Dr. Pflederer is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.

Originally from Indiana, Dr. Pflederer currently lives in Liberty Park with her husband, Matt, and their three children, Jackson, Pearson, and Parker. In her spare time, she enjoys painting, skiing, camping, and going to concerts. With Dr. Pflederer’s knowledge and training, we are excited to expand our dermatology practice to include a surgical suite and extend our top-notch care to skin cancer removal surgeries.

JULIA TAUSCHER, MD, FAAD

Board Certified Dermatologist

Dr. Julia Tauscher is a board-certified dermatologist with a passion for cosmetic, medical and surgical dermatology. After working as a dermatologist in Raleigh, North Carolina, Dr. Tauscher has returned home to Mountain Brook to provide exceptional care to our patients. Dr. Tauscher earned her medical degree at the University Of Alabama School Of Medicine, where she was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and awarded “Best in Surgery.” She then completed her dermatology residency at the University of Rochester where she served as Resident Cosmetics Chair. Dr. Tauscher has spoken at national conferences including the AAD and annual ASDS meeting. Her work has been published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and JAMA Dermatology, and she has written book chapters on cosmetic and laser therapies for acne scarring. Dr. Tauscher is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. In her spare time, Dr. Tauscher enjoys the outdoors, exercise, home cooking, jewelry, and traveling.

CAROLINE CRABTREE, MD, FAAD

Board Certified Dermatologist

Dr. Crabtree is a board-certified dermatologist who, after practicing in Jackson, Mississippi, has returned home to Birmingham to continue her passion for providing excellent cosmetic, medical, and surgical dermatologic care. She is a summa cum laude graduate of Auburn University with a degree in Biomedical Sciences. She then attended medical school at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, where she graduated summa cum laude and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, serving as Vice President. Dr. Crabtree completed her residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS, and was selected to be chief resident in her final year. She is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the Women’s Dermatologic Society. She lives in Mountain Brook with her husband, Reaves, and their two children. When she is not working, she enjoys traveling and trying new restaurants!

AMANDA LANIER, PA-C

Certified Physician Assistant

Amanda Lanier is a Certified Physician Assistant who partners with our dermatologists to deliver quality and compassionate care. Amanda graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a minor in Spanish. She earned her PA degree at Nova Southeastern University in Jacksonville, Florida. Amanda is a member of the Mountain Brook Junior Board, the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.

KELLY FORDHAM, PA-C

Certified Physician Assistant

Kelly Fordham is an experienced and highly-trained Dermatology Physician Assistant. She assesses, diagnoses and treats acute and chronic skin conditions. After earning her nursing degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Kelly graduated with honors from the same institution in 2013 with a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies. Kelly is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.

WENDY CANTRELL, DNP, CRNP

Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner

Wendy is a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner and brings with her almost 20 years of experience in the field of dermatology. Wendy received her undergraduate and master’s degree in nursing from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. In 2011, she earned her doctorate of nursing practice from the same institution, where she later became an Associate Professor in the Department of Dermatology. In addition, Wendy served as the Manager of Clinical Research at the UAB Department of Dermatology since 2000, and has conducted over 100 research studies in the field of dermatology.

Wendy is a founding board member for the Alabama Society of Dermatology Professionals and a faculty member of the Dermatology Education Foundation. She is also a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the Dermatology Nurses Association. Wendy currently lives in her hometown of Gardendale, Alabama with her husband, Eric and their three children.

LELIE WELDEN, PA-C

Certified Surgical Physician Assistant

Lelie Welden is a Certified Surgical Physician Assistant at Village Dermatology. After practicing as a Physician Assistant for the past two years, we are excited to have Lelie join our team. Originally from Birmingham, Lelie received her Bachelor of Science in Health Science from Furman University. She went on to earn her master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Lelie is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and is an active member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.

At Village Dermatology, Lelie serves our patients by providing general dermatology care with a focus on skin cancer detection and treatment. She will also be assisting with Mohs surgeries, conducting surgical follow-ups, and collaborating with our dermatologists and medical team. In their spare time, Lelie and her husband enjoy spending time with friends and family, running, and traveling.

KIM COKER HALVORSON

Licensed Medical Aesthetician

Kim Coker Halvorson is a Licensed Medical Aesthetician and 18-year veteran of the skincare and beauty industries. She has spent the past 11 years skillfully treating and educating Village Dermatology patients on the importance of good skin care. Kim has extensive experience in dermal technology, anti-aging, and acne treatment. Her specialties include BBL, IPL, PiXel8, Cutera laser, microneedling, laser hair removal, and chemical peels.

Kim completed her aesthetic education at Ayers State in 2002. She enjoys the outdoors, reading and spending time with her husband and children.

MACKENZIE MEEKS

Licensed Medical Aesthetician

Mackenzie is a Licensed Medical Aesthetician and specializes in custom facials, dermaplaning, Hydrafacials and chemical peels. She completed her aesthetic education at BodyLogic Esthetics School in July 2021 and has also earned cosmetology training from Winonah Cosmetology School in 2019. Mackenzie has spent the last 2 years building relationships with Village Dermatology patients working in our Front Office Department and Aesthetic and Laser Center. For Mackenzie, the most rewarding part about being an aesthetician is working with her patients to help them achieve their skincare goals and feel confident in their skin! In her spare time, Mackenzie enjoys being outdoors, playing with her cats, and styling hair.

Anna Rhoades

Licensed Medical Aesthetician

She graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and from the School of Botanical and Medical Aesthetics in Denver, Colorado. She also attended the College of International Esthetics to continue her education in lasers and injectables. Anna is trained in Hydrafacial, Diamond Glow, chemical peels, and microneedling.

Anna resides in Inverness with her husband Kenny, her daughter Edie, and her two dogs, Mr. Tux and Chai!  We are excited to welcome Anna to our Aesthetics and Laser team.

JANE VICKERS

Master Body Sculpting Specialist

Jane conducts consultations, builds custom treatment plans and performs all body sculpting procedures to bring optimal results for our patients. Jane has over 7 years of experience with CoolSculpting® and has performed over 5,000 treatments at Village Dermatology. In 2019, Jane was nominated by our CoolSculpting Practice Development Manager to attend CoolSculpting Masters, an elite class only available to top-performing CoolSculpting Specialists. Jane completed her Master CoolSculpting certification in Restin, VA, and she is only one of a few Masters in the state of Alabama. Jane enjoys health and fitness, the outdoors and spending time with family.
